3 Shots That Make a Brand Video Look Professional

When people think about what makes a brand video look professional, they often jump straight to cameras, lighting, or editing software.

And while those things certainly help, one of the biggest factors is actually what you're filming.

Over the years, I've noticed that the strongest brand videos tend to include a few key types of shots that help tell the story, create visual interest, and make the final product feel polished. If you're planning a business video, here are three shots I almost always recommend incorporating.

Establishing Shots That Set the Scene

Before viewers can connect with your story, they need to understand where they are.

Establishing shots are the wide shots that introduce your business, workspace, storefront, job site, or environment. These shots help create context and immediately make a video feel more intentional.

Whether it's an exterior building shot, drone footage, or a wide view of your team at work, these visuals help orient the audience and add production value right from the start.

Authentic Team and Action Shots

One of the most effective ways to build trust through video marketing is to show real people doing real work.

Instead of relying entirely on interviews, I always try to capture team members interacting, collaborating, helping customers, or performing the services that make the business unique. These action shots bring energy to a video and help viewers picture what it's actually like to work with your company.

They also help reinforce authenticity which is something that has become increasingly important in modern brand storytelling.

Detailed B-Roll That Supports the Story

The difference between an average business video and a polished one often comes down to the details.

Close-up shots of hands working, equipment in use, products being handled, customer interactions, or small moments throughout the day can add tremendous depth to a video. In the industry, this is often called B-roll, and it's one of the most valuable assets we capture on any shoot.

These shots keep videos visually engaging, support key talking points, and help create smoother edits that feel more professional from start to finish.

A professional-looking brand video isn't about using the most expensive equipment. It's about capturing the right footage.

By combining:

  • Strong establishing shots
  • Authentic team and action footage
  • Detailed B-roll

you create a video that feels more engaging, more polished, and more aligned with your brand.

Sometimes it's the simplest shots that make the biggest difference. If you're planning a brand video and want content that feels professional, authentic, and strategically built around your business goals, we'd love to help.
