Hiring a videographer for the first time can feel a little overwhelming. I completely understand. You might know you need video content, but not know exactly what information to bring to that first conversation.

The good news is that you don't need to have every detail figured out before you reach out. My job is to help guide the creative process. That said, coming prepared with a few key ideas helps us spend less time guessing and more time creating a video that supports your business goals.

Start With Your Goals

The first thing I always want to understand is why you're creating a video.

Are you hoping to attract new customers? Recruit great employees? Introduce your brand? Showcase a product or service?

Once we know the goal, we can build the right strategy around it. It also helps to think about who you're trying to reach. The more I understand your audience, the easier it is to create a video that speaks directly to them and encourages them to take action.

Think About Where Your Video Will Be Used

One of the most important details to consider is where your video will live.

A homepage video, a social media reel, a recruitment piece, a tutorial, and a paid advertisement all have different purposes and are created a little differently. If you already know where you'll be sharing your content or have a few examples of videos you like that's incredibly helpful during the planning process.

You don't need a finished concept. Even a few ideas or examples give us a great place to start.

Collaboration Creates Better Results

One of my favorite parts of this job is helping businesses turn ideas into a clear plan.

The best video projects aren't the ones where the client has every answer—they're the ones where we collaborate from the beginning. When I understand your business, your goals, and what success looks like for you, I can recommend the right approach and make sure every part of the production supports those objectives.

A little preparation before our first call can save time, reduce revisions, and help you get the most value from your investment.

If you're thinking about hiring a videographer but aren't sure where to begin, I'd love to help. Together, we can create a plan that fits your business and produces content you'll be excited to share.
