What It's Like to Work With Maine Businesses
One of the things I enjoy most about working in video production and digital media is getting to work with businesses right here in Maine. Being local to many of our clients changes the experience in ways that go beyond simply being able to drive to a shoot. (And don't get me wrong, I'm happy to travel outside of Maine for a client!)
When you work with local businesses, you get to know the people behind them, understand their communities, and see firsthand what makes each company different. For me, that relationship is a big part of what makes the work rewarding.
Local Businesses Are More Than Just a Project
Every business has a different story, even when they work in the same industry. Some are focused on recruiting, others are trying to explain what they do to potential customers, and some simply want to show the people and culture behind their company.
Being local gives us the opportunity to spend time understanding those differences. We can visit a business, see how they operate, meet the team, and get a better feel for what makes them unique. That context can make a big difference when we're planning a video, photography session, social media content, or a larger digital media strategy.
I also think there's something valuable about working with people who understand the area. Maine businesses have their own communities, customers, industries, and way of doing things. Being part of that same local business community helps us create content that feels genuine rather than generic.
Collaboration Is Easier When You're Local
One of the biggest benefits of working locally is simply being able to collaborate in person. Sometimes the best ideas come from a conversation at a business, walking through a facility, or seeing something firsthand that might not have come across during a phone call.
It also makes the process more personal. We're not just showing up with cameras, filming, and leaving. We can help with planning, messaging, production, editing, and figuring out how the finished content can actually be used.
Over time, that creates a different kind of working relationship. We get to know our clients, and they get to know how we work. That familiarity makes it easier to build on previous projects, try new ideas, and create content that continues to reflect where their business is going.
The Local Connection Matters
Working with Maine businesses has given us the opportunity to work across a wide range of industries and meet a lot of great people along the way. Every project is different, and that's one of the things I enjoy most about this work.
For me, being local isn't just about geography. It's about relationships, communication, and being invested in the businesses and communities around us.
Whether we're creating a recruitment video, capturing professional photography, producing social media content, or helping a business develop a larger digital media strategy, I think that local connection makes the entire process better.
That's what I want Horizon Visual Media to be for Maine businesses: a local partner they can work with, communicate with, and rely on as their digital media needs continue to grow. If you want to work with someone local who understands the community you're serving, let's chat!
